Cheekd is a dating app that started with its "business card" model. They initially give away business cards initially with some information about the members. It was founded by Lori Cheek in 2014. She appeared in a reality TV show titled "Shark Tank" but was turned down and didn't get any support from its judges.

In 2015, the app was developed and instead of physical business cards, they used Bluetooth connection to notify members that there's another member nearby.

Currently, it is available on iOS devices. It has a website but it's only linked to the download page of the app.

The app offers simple features where members who are 18 years old and above can enjoy.

When you use your Facebook account to sign-up, the needed information will be accessed from your public profile. You should allow Cheekd to access your account to complete your registration. When you use your mobile number, you will need to manually enter some information like your first name, birth date, email address, and gender. Next is you have to upload at least one profile photo. You can add up to 10 photos to your profile.

After providing the required information, enable your location services so you will not miss a connection. You also have to give the app access to your Bluetooth connection. It will allow other members to know if you are nearby. Although it is optional, you may also turn on your notification for the app.

Design and Usability

The app is only available on iOS devices at the moment of testing which limits the members who can join. The design is dark-themed, having a black background, and burgundy-like details. App Store requires devices with iOS 9.0 or later for the latest version to work. It also doesn't have a desktop version.

Cheekd is an upgrade of the traditional business card exchange. However, the app in general still needs a lot to improve. The only special feature is the Bluetooth technology, which sends out a notification if there's a member around the area. As advanced as it may sound, it actually is not very different from the GPS or location services. Finding a member nearby is not very easy as well since the app has a limited number of members.It is still worth a try since you can download it for free and you don't need the internet to make it work. Also, it is not complicated to use. But for easier access to other members, you might want to consider other Dating Apps that we have reviewed.
