I was born in Taiwan, but I’ve been living in Sydney since I was 10. Because of this, I have grown to be “more American” (as my Chinese aunts would say) than stick to my being native Chinese. I once had an American girlfriend, which of course, my aunts did not approve of. Still, we were together for about five years until we decided to call it quits due to “cultural differences.” I still cannot cut ties to my tradition, and she simply could not accept it.
Then I discovered EastMeetEast, and it was just the thing I needed. Nobody would understand me better than Asian-Americans such as myself. I’ve been a member of the dating site for about 6 months so far, I am enjoying it. I’ve gone on too many dates, all which ended up with being friends. But even if I haven’t found someone to seriously date with using the app, I gained a lot of friends that I still hang out with from time to time. - Kenny, 29
Design and Usability
The design of EastMeetEast makes for a pleasant user experience. The interface is clean and straightforward. Bright colours such as pink and green are used to highlight some sections, but overall, the web design sticks to the colours of blue and grey.
The website's features are organised in tabs on the header menu. The tabs are ’Search’, ‘Messages’, ‘Smiles’, ‘Visitors’, and ‘Subscribe’. Your profile and account settings are on the rightmost side of the header menu. Each page showcases the particular feature of the website. On the ‘Search’ page, members are displayed using a grid layout, with the number of columns depending on the size of your browser. As for the ‘Messages’, ‘Smiles’, and ‘Visitors’ pages, if you have not received any interaction, a piece of advice would instead be shown. Such bits of advice are to upload a photo or to complete your profile.
